Why a ZIP code is not a quote
A ZIP code can help locate an official flood map or broad local risk, but it cannot determine a personal home insurance price. Two properties in the same ZIP may differ in reconstruction cost, roof, construction, fire protection, claims, occupancy, inspections, limits, deductibles, and carrier eligibility.
Use location data carefully
| Location question | Better source | What it cannot answer alone |
|---|---|---|
| Official flood zone | FEMA Flood Map Service Center | Exact coverage, premium, or future flooding |
| State insurance rules | State insurance department | One carrier's final underwriting decision |
| Weather or catastrophe exposure | Government hazard and emergency sources | Whether a particular loss will be covered |
| Personal quote | Licensed insurer, agent, or broker | Final terms until underwriting is complete |
