Editorial Policy

See how HomeQuoteAtlas researches, writes, verifies, updates, and corrects home insurance information.

Last updated: August 11, 2026Informational guidance

Source hierarchy

  1. The reader's actual declarations page, endorsements, and policy form.
  2. State insurance departments and federal agencies.
  3. NAIC consumer resources and insurer regulatory filings.
  4. Established industry education sources for general explanations.

When sources conflict, the applicable policy and regulator take priority over a general article.

Writing standards

  • State the boundary between general education and a binding coverage decision.
  • Avoid invented premiums, ratings, reviews, customer counts, and professional credentials.
  • Label averages with their assumptions and source when data is available.
  • Use “what to verify” when carrier or state rules can differ.

Updates

Pages are updated when a source changes, a material error is reported, or the comparison framework needs clarification. A modification date means the page content changed; it is not a claim of attorney, agent, or expert review.
