What to compare
A discount is useful only when the final policy still has the right form, limits, settlement, and deductible. Compare the net premium and the conditions required to keep each credit.
- Multi-policy or account discount and the cost of every bundled policy
- Alarm, leak detection, automatic shutoff, sprinkler, generator, and smart-device credits
- Roof, wind, wildfire, fortified-home, or other mitigation programs recognized by that insurer
- New-home, claims-free, loyalty, payment, paperless, and protective-community credits
- Expiration dates, inspection requirements, monitoring certificates, and renewal re-verification
Questions that need a written answer
| Question | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Is bundling actually cheaper overall? | Add every policy premium and compare coverage before and after the bundle. |
| When does the discount begin? | Some credits require documents, an inspection, or the companion policy to issue first. |
| Can the credit disappear? | Ask what must remain active and check each renewal declarations page. |
| Did coverage change to create the saving? | A lower limit, higher deductible, or removed endorsement is not a discount. |
Records to keep with the quote
- Side-by-side unbundled and bundled proposals
- Monitoring certificates and device invoices
- Mitigation inspections, roof permits, and product documentation
- Renewal declarations showing each applied credit
Important boundary: Discount names and eligibility rules vary. A quoted percentage does not by itself show the dollar saving or the value of the resulting coverage.
